Notice to all BWA Member Cities and Customers:
The effects of Hurricane Beryl have impacted our community in many ways, but our water remains safe for consumption. Brazosport Water Authority is aware of the taste, color, and odor issues affecting Member Cities and Customers. However, none of these issues have made our water unsafe.
The wind, rainfall, and debris from Hurricane Beryl have affected water sources in our community and throughout Southeast Texas. Contributing
factors include substantial amounts of organic matter and depleted oxygen in the water. This is a region-wide problem affecting reservoirs, creeks, and bayous. As a result, taste, color, and odor issues have arisen within the distribution system.
BWA is implementing every treatment technique available to us. The natural cycle will also assist in correcting the situation by reintroducing oxygen back into the bodies of water through several natural actions, such as photosynthesis and other aerating processes.
BWA has continuous online monitoring and daily bacteriological sampling. All test results have confirmed that the water remains safe for consumption. We apologize for any inconvenience. As always, the safety of the public is our main concern, and we will continue to provide updates as changes occur.
------------------------------------------------
The City of Angleton receives over 95% of our drinking water from our surface water provider, BWA. Due to hurricane Beryl, the source of BWA’s surface water has been impacted. This has caused reservoirs and channels to become disturbed from all the rainfall, and flow. This in turn has caused the treated water we receive to have a yellowish appearance in color, and a slight odor. BWA is doing everything in their power to combat the issue at their treatment facility. BWA and the City of Angleton want to assure you that the water is safe to drink. These discoloration issues, and odor issues, will linger until the flow of the reservoirs return to normal post-storm. For any other issues, or additional information, please contact Jacob Glover at 979-849-4364 ext. 5111. Thank you.
